I agree that Congress should not be the ultimate arbiter of healthcrae, so maybe the rest of the question is moot: Did any of the Democrats explain their reasoning?
I haven't seen any in the news coverage I've followed. One of the leadership members did say that the Dems weren't whipping votes on it, just leaving everyone to vote however they wanted. What I haven't seen is any of them stepping forward and saying, "this absolutely sucks, but here's why I had to do it." And that's what I would expect of them on a vote like this. Instead, it's just like they are shrugging in silence as they vote in a way that *will* result in dead kids.
Yeah, that will take some work, but I am working on ideas for how to track down whether or not there are primary challengers for any given one of these Dems. Theoretically, any such challengers *want* to be visible, so at least they're trying to be seen.

Yeah, that's what I would have expected them to say. Like "I know it looks bad but there was this poison pill: ___"
Finding out whether or not he is facing primary challengers may prove difficult, unless someone has already done the campaign finance paperwork.
